Alright, so i've started ripping the models from Tales of Symphonia recently, and I've decided that it'd be pretty cool/handy/useful to share some high quality screenshots of the characters for others, such as yourself, to use for drawing/cosplaying/other.
Here's the first set: (from top to bottom) -Martel -Mithos -Mithos (without vest/shawl?) -Yggdrasill
Question, were these the .dat files in the TOSFIELD.cvm file? Or .bin files in TOSROOT? I dunno if you used the gamecube or ps2 version, so the file structure might be different, but i'm interested in how you extracted them.
I couldn't say unfortunately, as i'm ripping these through Dolphin using 3D Ripper DX (these are from the GCN version), However in the PS2 version i have in fact figured out how to extract the textures outta the .iso, which just took some digging around on the internet to find the tools/info necessary to do so (i'll make a quick guide explaining how to get said textures sometime in the future).
I'd really love to get the models straight outta the .iso (either versions), imagine all the hidden stuff just waiting to be found in ToS!, but i'm a novice with hex and identifying data types and the sort, i know if i had the actual models, bones and all it'd make this whole process so much easier.
(I'm assuming since Rutee's data is in the Gamecube Ver., and Woodrow has his Swordian, Igtenos, in the Cameo, then Rutee's Swordian, Atwight, must be in there as well..)
Rambling is fine! haha. But I see, i always forget about 3D Ripper because it never wants to work on my computer XD. I use Apache 3 to extract the .cvm files from Abyss and Symphonia, and I'm pretty sure I found some models' files, but they're compressed and I'm terrible and figuring out how it's compressed OTL. I found some lines in the ascii data for bones though.
If only Symphonia had the same level of security that Dawn of the New World does, which is nonexistent D:
Yeah, Suprsingly enough, i managed to get 3D Ripper working through my virtual machine of Windows 7 on my iMac, it wouldn't work the first time i tried (partially because i had no idea what i was doing), but i came back to try it again and sure enough it all worked like clockwork. (of course i had to install DX9 on my virtual machine)
With those .cvm files you can convert them into another .iso and extract all the content inside of the .cvm using the tool "ROFS2ISO" [link] It's what i used to get the .dat files outta the TOSBTL.cvm in the PS2 iso, which uses the .TM2 format for images/textures.
Nice!, it's interesting finding out about all this stuff, DotNW files were ripped right open, and in turn we got a bunch of nice models...but the first Symphonia is a whole other story.
Windows 7? Hmm, I'll have to see if I can get it to work again... What version of dolphin are you using?
Thanks for the tool! Hopefully It'll streamline getting files from games
Yeah, you'd think the security would be even better on the second game @_@ Rebirth still seems to have the best security in the series as far as I know. I could only get the cut ins' textures through texmod then adjusting the color channels in photoshop D:
For Dolphin (on Windows) I use 3.0-201 (it was the latest build at the time, so it's probably safe to say you could go ahead and download the newest build if you wanted to.)
No problem, and this might help you, or anyone else for that matter, a bit with 3D Ripper DX's setup (took me a moment to put it together) [link]
good continuation
